I was excited to give Tidy Cats Direct a try because anything that makes litter box maintenance easier is, well, worth a try. It arrived looking like a regular cardboard box. I'm not one who's known for following directions, but I wanted to make sure I opened the box properly, so I located the instructions on the box. Super simple. All I had to do was peel, pull back, and fold under. Voila! Litter box!

Cosmo and Phoebe were curious, of course. Any time I do anything with their litter box areas, they have to be all up in my business. I suppose they consider the boxes their "property," and I suppose their right. I'd be curious if they were making changes to my toilet. Little kitty plumbers -- cute!

The cats used the box for a full month and maintenance was a breeze. They took to the new addition just fine, and I continued with my usual scooping schedule. One might think the cardboard would allow for leaking, but no way. There's an anti-leak coating on the box. Science!

Another cool feature is the little lip that runs along the box's edge. It helps keep the litter inside the box, which is key for me because my Phoebe is a champion kicker. Another feature I appreciate is the lack of dust clouds because there's no pouring. That means less sneezing for Phoebe, who's also a championship sneezer.

When the life of the litter box had come to an end, all I had to do was close the flap and toss it. For real. That easy. Since I didn't have to scrub litter boxes, here's what I had time to do:

• Make a smoothie (banana blueberry with some flax seeds, in case you're wondering)
• Blow raspberries on my cat's belly and try not to get my face rabbit-kicked off
• Dispense cat treats

Learn About Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease, and Win a Free Bag of Urinary Formula from Purina Pro Plan #Sponsored

Sometimes it's hard to know when cats don't feel well -- they can be masters at hiding pain. Their symptoms might even mimic a completely different health or behavior issue. Cats can be confusing!

One health concern that's sometimes difficult to recognize is Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD), which is a group of diseases that affect both the bladder and urethra in cats. Sometimes FLUTD is caused by urinary stones or crystals. It's way more common that you might imagine. In fact, my Saffy has struggled with this very situation on and off for several years.

Poor Saffy!

We thought our 14-year-old Saffy had litter box issues and showed signed of anxiety, which are warning signs for FLUTD, but can also indicate other situations. We knew something was off because she began consistently urinating on any clothing she'd find on the floor. We made sure the boxes were super clean and even tried a different type of litter, but nothing helped. We decided it was time for a vet visit. After discussing Saffy's symptoms and gathering information from an x-ray, we finally knew what was causing the inappropriate urination -- she had a few crystals in her bladder, which thankfully explained her behavior.

Here are some of FLUTD's risk factors:

Gender: Although both males and females experience urinary tract disorders, a male's longer and narrower urethra is more likely to be obstructed by crystals and mucus.

Breed: Persians seem to have a higher incidence of FLUTD, while there are less cases with Siamese cats.

Age: Cats ages 2-6 are most often affected by lower urinary tract disorders; however cats of any age can be susceptible.

Activity Level: Indoor cats, who are more sedentary than outdoor kitties, are at a higher risk for developing FLUTD. This may be because less activity leads to less water consumed, which leads to less urination and the formation of crystals.

Diet: Recent studies indicate urine pH and concentration are important factors in the development of FLUTD. Increased water intake is a vital component in reducing the risk of developing the disease.

Again, FLUTD can present as other types of health concerns. Here are the symptoms of which you need to be aware:

• Frequent trips to the litter box
• Cries when urinating
• Urinates outside the litter box
• Licks genital areas excessively
• Strains to urinate, with little success
• Displays signs of anxiety, such as pacing or hiding

At first, Phoebe and Saffy were standoffish, afraid the jug would monopolize my affections.

Soon after, they realized the visiting jug would benefit them, and they became fast friends -- especially Phoebe, who is our own petite lightweight.

I've been buying Tidy Cats LightWeight for a while now, and am a total fan of the reduced weight -- 50% to be exact. I was eager to test the new formula because I'm usually a little wary of scented litter. In general, I don't like heavily-scented products. I was happy to find the scent light and pleasing, and it clumps like a charm. My cats took to the litter right away, and told me they enjoy the newest blend. Yes, my cats talk to me about all kinds of important things, litter being at the top of the list. Like me, they know anything bathroom related is serious business!

You know what else is cool? Tidy Cats LightWeight is 99.9% dust free. This is great news for my cats, as well as my asthmatic daughter, who sometimes helps with the scooping.

Sure, the jug's lightness is aces, but it also sports two handles! This makes pouring a breeze. Plus, I'm not afraid to admit I'm not at all what you'd call "buff". Gym was right up -- or rather, down --  there with Science when it came to my school schedule. Win 12 Bags of Delightibles Cat Treats!

Cat treats! If my cats even hear the magic "t" word, they barrel toward the kitchen from all corners of the house. Heck, I do too -- especially now. During the holidays, we can't go two feet without stumbling upon a plate of cookies, fudge or some other kind of delicious decadency.

Speaking of delicious, the nice people at Delightibles asked if Saffy, Cosmo and Phoebe would be interested in trying some of their gourmet treats. I asked them, and they said they were too full, and couldn't think about eating another treat. Ha -- you know that's a joke! They were all in, 10,000-percent.

So Delightibles sent us a bag of their chicken and a bag of their beef treats. As soon as I shook the bag, the cats knew something cool was about to go down, so they followed me to the kitchen, no questions asked.

I opened the bag of beef treats and noticed the size of each nugget was just right. Sometimes cat treats can be way too big, and my Phoebe has trouble with them because of her tiny mouth. And I only call it "tiny" because she has a tough time chewing large pieces of food. She is the mouthiest of my three cats, and is never without commentary.

The treats are crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside, so kitties get a surprise when they chomp into the nummy nom. Delightibles offers six flavors: chicken, turkey, tuna, salmon, beef and dairy. They're made in the U.S.A and are free of artificial preservatives like BHA, BHT, as well as wheat and soy; however, their ingredients include antioxidants and natural flavors.

My cats insisted on tasting the treats several times before offering me their official opinion, which was, "Can we have some more?" I took that as three nods in a positive direction!

Win a T-Shirt Inspired by Friskies' "Dear Kitten" Commercials

Have you seen the hilariously adorable "Dear Kitten" commercials from Purina Friskies? They've been making the social-media rounds and, if you're like me, you've watched each one about a dozen times. In the four commercials (I say "commercial," but the advertisement is incredibly subtle), the senior cat of the house is teaching the new kittens the ropes when it comes to living in his new home.

The cat goes over important lessons like how to deal with the dog, living with humans, and the mysteries of the mirror (or as the cat says, "window that's lower than the others") and the cats who live on the other side of the "window." Coincidentally, those cats are total doppelgangers of the cats looking through the "window." Crazy, huh?
