My Cat Lounges THROUGH the Laundry Basket

It's no secret that cats love laundry baskets, especially when they're full of laundry. In my house, Phoebe is Queen of Baskets. She calls dibs on every one, leaving Cosmo perpetually basket-less. It's like she can sense the vibe of warm laundry. Maybe she has a magical heat wave sensor with a super long range. I have no idea -- I just know she appears out of nowhere when I set a basket of warm laundry down somewhere.

And she usually doesn't just lie in the basket ... she lies through the thing, too.

The Queen of Baskets would is ready for you to kiss her paw.

A Cat's Thoughts Before the Laundry Basket

A cat's thought's moments before making the leap to a laundry basket:

I wonder if the towels are warm. It might not be worth my time to move if they're not warm because this loaf is pretty comfortable.

I can see myself burrowed under that top towel. Plus that color accentuates my features. I've always been a "spring."

What is that blue towel? Is that new? What happened to the yellow one? I liked that one. It had some interesting fray.

Have the other cats seen the basket? Time is of the essence. The loaf will wait. #first

My Cat is a Pot Pie

So there's this little round basket we use as one of the cats' "toy boxes." It's always full of cat toys of all kinds -- soft, hard, oddly shaped. It isn't a space I'd call "comfortable."

Phoebe, however, has her own idea (surprise, surprise) about comfort and regularly uses it as a cat bed. It's lumpy and small, but she curls herself up inside the basket, on top of the toys, and crashes for hours at a time. This is another example of "I need to stop questioning why cats do what they do." Phoebe agrees.

I think she looks like a pot pie.

Sometimes Cats Have Difficult Choices

Sometimes cats have incredibly difficult choices -- like choosing a laundry basket of clothes.

It's so hard to be a cat.

Cat Sleeps in Basket, Makes Human Insane

Sometimes cats do the funniest or cutest things and they don't even know they're doing them. I think I enjoy those little moments better than when they're actively trying be adorable or silly. Who am I kidding? I love all the moments.

The other day, Phoebe was sleeping in a laundry basket on a "mattress" towel we left so she'd have maximum comfort, of course. She was sleeping so close to the edge that her fur was poking through the holes of the basket. What was I to do but spend a ridiculous amount of time on the floor touching her fur with an insane perma-grin on my face? It's the little things, you know.

I mean, LOOK at the fur!

Photobomb Cat Strikes again!

The other day we took down the Christmas decorations and, just like when we put them up, the nosy cats had to inspect every tub and climb inside every basket. Phoebe immediately claimed a gold holiday basket and I moved in my with camera to grab an adorable shot. Just at that moment, Cosmo decided to drop a huge photobomb. Phoebe was not amused.

Incoming photobomb!

Phoebe isn't great at hiding irritation

Finally, the perfect shot.

My Cat is Like a Mob Boss

Cats love laundry baskets, especially when they're stuffed with warm clothing -- or towels! Bonus! Phoebe is our little alpha girl, so she's usually the first one of my three to jack a prime basket. In addition to the coziness factor, there are sometimes holes in these vessels.

I always laugh when I see Phoebe's paw sticking through one of the openings. She appears to be using it as a tool for extended lounging, but I somehow think she wants us to kiss her paw -- like a queen ... or a mob boss. Either one works in Phoebe's situation.

Reasons Why Cats Love Laundry Baskets

Reasons why cats love laundry baskets:
  1. It's a basket, duh.
  2. Warm laundry
  3. Holes for peeking and paw-poking
  4. Reconnecting with socks that were once stinky.
  5. Another way of making themselves more important than the business at hand (folding laundry)
  6. They know they look cute and we won't move them. Because we are total suckers
