And the Winner Is ... My Cat!

I'll admit it: I'm kind of an entertainment junkie. I love movies, and would go to the theatre every single day if I had the opportunity. I don't watch a ton of TV, but definitely follow my favorite shows and have a pretty full DVR.

Needless to say, I was glued to the Golden Globe Awards last evening. My family loves all awards shows and we always make a big tadoo out of them. We used to have costume contests during the Oscars, in which we'd have to show up dressed in the theme of one of the nominated films -- the costumes were always surprises, and there were some good ones. This year we decided to get totally dressed to the nines on Oscar night. Hey -- life is supposed to be fun, and this is one way we enjoy our time together!

My cats are part of the family, and Phoebe was front and center during the Red Carpet show last night. She loves Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and was interested in watching Ryan Seacrest interview them. Maybe I'll make Phoebe a little tiara to wear on Oscar night.

I Won an Award, Hung Out with Friends and Met an Amazing New Cat Buddy!

Finally heading home today after visiting with a friend in Texas and then attending the 2013 Cat Writers' Association conference in Dallas. At the conference I attended some fantastic workshops, met some great people at the book signing, sold some copies of whiskerslist: the kitty classifieds, met an amazing blind cat named Spirit and won a Muse Medallion for my Catster column, Kids, Cats, Chaos! A bunch of my fellow cat-writing buddies won too, including Deb Barnes of Zee & Zooey won Friskies Writer of the Year award, JaneA Kelley of Paws and Effect won two Muse Medallions and Deb Glovatsky of Glogirly won two medallions as well!

And of course, it's always fun to visit with all my writer friends. Janiss Garza from Sparkle the Designer Cat is one of my besties and I love spending time with her. And I finally got to meet Glori Anibarro from Gato Avocado. There are just way too many delightful people to name here. They all rock pretty hard and are friends to and advocates for cats.

(L-R) Deb, me and JaneA. Cat writers are tough, yo.
Book signing with authors Amy Shojai and Susan Logan, who is also the editor of Cat Fancy.
I love meeting readers!
Spirit helped me sell books.

"Cheers!" from Janiss, Glori and me!

Now it's home to my human and furry family. And lots of stink eye from the latter!

Guess What? Catladyland Won! And Joy Happened!

It's true! Catladyland won Best Humor Blog in the BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Social Media and Pet Blogging Awards!

My friend Amy took this photo of me on the big screen. I thought for sure writing a speech would jinx my win.  Of course I had no speech prepared so I stood up there and blurted out something about kissing ferrets and then ran off stage.

My favorite part of BlogPaws is reconnecting with my favorite cat ladies. This year I was so proud to be in the company of some fabulous finalists in the awards. These ladies rock in a super-hard way. Fur realsies. How could you not want to totally smooch Deb from The Chronicles of Zee and Zoey, Robin from Covered in Cat Hair, Tamar from I Have Cat, me from ... this blog, JaneA from Paws and Effect and Debbie from Glogirly. YAY!!

L-R: Deb, Robin, Tamar, me, JaneA and Debbie. FOXES!!

Some of the Catster writers got to finally meet up with Janine and Lori from Catster.com, the online magazine to which we contribute. We ate way too much delicious food and by the time we left, I wished for some maternity pants. I am so in love with these ladies.

L-R: Dorian, me, Janine, JaneA and Lori
Overall, this was my favorite BlogPaws ever!! Thank you so much to Purina for sponsoring me -- they are the best! And next year is Vegas, baby! Cats in showgirl costumes? Yes, please!

Guess What I Got For My Birthday?

Yesterday was my birthday and I received a couple of surprise gifts. Guess what they were? Really, guess -- what are you, lazy? Kidding! OK, I'll just tell you. Well, aside from the giant snowstorm that blessed my commute with endless adventure, Catladyland was chosen as a finalist for Best Humor Blog in the BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Blogging and Social Media Awards! How cool is that?

In May, I'll travel to the D.C. area for the BlogPaws conference (it will be my 5th year!) and the awards ceremony will take place on the final evening of the shingdig. The winners in each category will receive a super-cool trophy and be included in a collective donation of an embroidered police vest for the Arlington Police Department K-9 officer, Hugo. Also donated will be a collection of small animal oxygen makes to local fire departments. Nice!

BlogPaws reported nearly 1,000 nominations and we are honored to be among the 48 finalists. And many of our blogger friends made the cut as well -- congrats to everyone! So thank you for the nominations and for sharing laughs with Saffy, Cosmo Phoebe and me every day! You're the cat's meow, the cream of the crop and the total shizz.

You think I'd forget? You remind me every day.

A Great Day in Catladyland and His Head is in a Cheez-It Box

Guess what? At the recent Cat Writers' conference I won a Muse Medallion award for my Catladyland post entitled "Cosmic Love." Don't believe me? Here's a photo of the medallion and one of me wearing it.

I'm so grateful one of my posts was recognized by an organization for which I have massive admiration. I couldn't have done it without MY muse, Mr. Cosmo. Do you think he even cares about the award? No. All he care about is if he can fit his entire body into an empty box of Cheez-its.

Seven Things

A little while back, Kassey from the Mom and Me, Kassey blog awarded me the Stylish Blogger award!  I am so grateful and am happy to share seven things about me that (shhhh...) might be news to some readers.

Because all Catladyland's readers are spectacularly stylish, I award the Stylish Blogger award to each of you and welcome you (if you wish) to post seven little-known facts and pass the award along to other razzley-dazzley recipients!

#1: I like to wear skirts.  I think they are comfortable and I like how they swish when I walk.

#2: I could (and usually do) eat popcorn every day.  I pop it on top of the stove, drizzle it with olive oil, and sprinkle it with salt.  Sometimes (when I'm feeling crazy), I add some grated Parmesan cheese.

#3: I kiss all my cats on the lips.  Yes, I know where those lips have been.

#4: If I am flipping through the TV channels, I will always stop on Roseanne.  I love that show and have been known to watch all-day marathons.  In general, I am a sucker for TV shows from the 70's and 80's.

#5: I'm a terrible singer, but I love to sing...especially Karaoke...especially ABBA.  I'm embarrassing....ask my husband.

#6: I always sneak my own popcorn into the movies (see #2).

#7: Sometimes I call out "TREAT!" just because I like to see all three cats in the same room at the same time.  That never happens.  And of course I always follow through with the treats...I'm odd, but not mean.

There you go...now go and get your Sunday on!

Kreativ Blogger Bonanza!

Mucho gratitude to Joyce at Shady Hollow for awarding Eclectic Catladyland a Kreativ Blogger Award! I feel honored and am excited to pass the award along to seven other kreativ kats. The 'rules' for the award are listed below:

1. Thank the person who gave this to you.
2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3. Link the person who nominated you.
4. Name 7 things about yourself that no one would really know.
5. Nominate seven 'Kreativ Bloggers'
6. Post links to the seven blogs you nominate
7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know you nominated them.

Seven things about me that aren't known to most people are:

  • My first name is Frances -- I go by my middle name, Angela.
  • I grew up in primarily in Atlanta and St. Augustine, but lived in Baton Rouge when I was in 3rd and 4th grade.
  • When I was a kid, I swear I once saw a two-headed snake and an real-live alien....not at the same time.
  • One time in college, I ran my thumb underneath a sewing machine needle -- it went in, broke off, and went back in. I am extra-petrified of that ever happening again.
  • My great grandmother was a Native American medicine woman.
  • My kids went to a Spanish immersion school and are bi-lingual.
  • I failed my first driving test and am still a horrible parallel parker.

Drum roll, please......

My seven nominations are blogs that I enjoy reading and would like to support:

spreadchange
wildhair
ramblingthoughtsandthoughtfulramblings
frugalluxuries
marysmeanderings
serenityismylife
catlady

Thanks again, Joyce, and blog on!!!

Sisterhood Blog Awards!

Yay!! Susan Bell and Wildhair recently presented me with the Sisterhood Award! Thank you both very much for sharing the love. Now I am honored to ask the following bloggerific ladies to approach the podium and take a well-deserved bow for helping me think, smile, learn, and howl in hyenaesque fashion on a daily basis. Because I read a number of blogs and I can only choose a few, I've decided to select the ones that are fairly active and updated on a regular basis. Please see my blog roll for a number of other palatable picks. Feel free to bestow the Sisterhood Blogger Award to your own favorite female bloggers!

Wildhair: I love this blog. This sassy lady is an incredibly clever and hi-larious writer. I enjoy her views on pop culture and daily life; ch-ch-ch-check her out!

Rambling Thoughts and Thoughtful Ramblings: Susan is a fellow catlady with a big heart and an engaging writing style. We also might be cosmically related :)

Pickles and Dimes: Shauna's quips are quirky and quick-witted. It's like unwrapping a rich and tasty chocolate treat when I indulge in one of her new posts. Plus, we share a bacony kind of love -- that kind of connection passeth all understanding.

Frugal Luxuries Food: Tracey authors a series of books called Frugal Luxuries and maintains sister-blogs for the topics. Her warm and friendly writing style and practical ideas for enjoying the fanciness of life on a budget are a must-read!

Zoe: Jess is a clever writer who blogs about her adventures in Nannyland, cats, and the nuttiness of daily life. She never fails me to slap a smile on my face. In fact, I just logged on and the phrase, "humongous poop explosion" jumped out at me. What's better than that???

Why Aren't I In Charge?: Dena is an animal-loving writer who loves to run and eat chocolate. Why in the world would you miss this blog??

Lost in Suburbia: Because I am a mom, I especially appreciate Tracy's humorous take on motherhood and the day-to-day of family life. I don't feel like the only crazed Mama out there when I read this blog -- thanks, Tracy!

Janet Reid, Literary Agent: Janet's blog includes excellent advice for writers and her entries are practical, interesting and cleverly written. I always learn something from Janet.

Catlady: Roberta authors a blog about her life as a Greek island-dwelling catlady. She's funny and posts lots of kitty eye-candy. Visit her virtual island!

About.com: Franny authors the About.com page for cats and cat care. I have used this reference on several occasions and have regularly referred others to it. If you are a cat owner, you need to bookmark this blog. Go on, do it!

Kazoofus: Kathy is another mom whose quick wit and wry humor sends me into fits of laughter. Love her.

Kostopia: This blog receives an honorable mention. Kosmos doesn't update as often as some, but I do enjoy her blog, love of felines, and sense of humor.

Bravo!!
