My Cats are All "Knots Landing"

Cosmo's the king of my lap. Well, he's kind of the king of my everything. That tuxie is slightly (incredibly) possessive of me and doesn't hide his emotions when he's not getting his way. He especially goes off the rails when Phoebe's smugly settled on to of my lap. He doesn't like that one bit. Nope. And she doesn't give one rip.

The drama! It's all Knots Landing up in here.

My Cats: Standing in Line to Stare at Me

I work from home, and sometimes have the distinct feeling I'm being watched while I go about my business. Of course I'm usually right because Cosmo and Phoebe like to be all up in my business no matter what I'm doing.

I recently had that "eyeballs on me" vibe, looked up, and saw the two of them standing about a foot from me. They were, naturally, staring at me; however, they also looked like they were standing in line. For what? Does the staring now have a hierarchy? "Queue up -- it's time to flip on our laser stares!" Is it like "calling shotgun" to see who gets to be first in line?

No idea what was happening, but it made me laugh. See for yourself.

My Cats On Morning Watch

You know when you wake up and feel like you're being watched?
Yeah, well it's usually because it's true.

Cabinet Cat is an Explorer and Has Super Powers

Ah, Cosmo ... my curious little cabinet kitty. Of my three, he's the one who can't walk past an open cabinet or closet door without sticking his nose -- and sometimes his body -- in to explore the contents. He might think he's on some kind of expedition of the highest order, but I have to laugh when I open the cabinet door and find him simply sitting in the dark. And the, if course, he pretends like he's complete invisible. Because cats are brave explorers and have super powers.

Cute Kitty Gets All T-Rex

Sometimes you just want a cute pic of your cat sleeping in their bed, and then they get all T-Rex on you. I'm not gonna lie -- I kind of like this look.

Cute-little-fierce-kitty-with-the-big-scary-teeth. I'm a-skeered.

My Hand is Giant and My Cat is Very Small

Sometimes one has to do what one must do for amusement. This includes "rubbing your cat's ear" from a distance and then taking a photo so your hand looks giant and/or the cat looks very small.

Life is short -- live it up, people!

My Cat Loves Dark Bathrooms

So this always never fails to make me laugh out loud: I flip on the bathroom light to find Cosmo lying on a rug, in the dark. What's he doing in there? It's not a very exciting place, and there are way more comfortable sleeping surfaces in other parts of my apartment. It's not warm, and even if it were, it seems like he'd loaf on the concrete floor. I ask him, but -- as of this writing -- he's offered no good explanation for his dark-bathroom getaways. So I look at him, laugh, and then go about my business.

Maybe I should try a nap on that rug. Perhaps it's like Aladdin's magic carpet and I'll have some kind of crazy flying dreams? Maybe.

What I see when I flip on the light. Oh hai.

Props to Cat Feet

I always smile when I see one of my cats leisurely lounging with a propped foot. I do the same thing ... except not in a cat bed. I kind of wish I had a human-sized cat bed like the one Cosmo has. I'd totally prop my feet.

Now you get some cat-feet eye candy.

Props to Cosmo and his coffee bean toes.

My Cat Keeps Me On Task

I work from home and stay pretty busy. This is why I need an assistant so I can stay on task and meet my deadlines. Cosmo helps me in that capacity. He's dependable and I know I'm his number one priority. I mean, look at that attentive face! Or he's sucking up because he wants to ask for extra vacation days. I told him every day for him is a vacation day, but he wasn't buying it. I think he's still holding a grudge because I wouldn't give him that 401K.

Cat Whiskers and Tortilla-Wrapped Kitties

Ah, the kitty whisker ... so elegant, yet practical. My Cosmo's whiskers have such flair, especially when he flares them. Sometimes when he's sleeping, I go in for a closer look. Closer looks are not always met with pleasantries when he's awake.

And still closer. Look at those things! And then he's got the funky "off the side of the head" one that reminds me a little of the Frankenstein monster's bolts. Cosmo's no monster, although sometimes I'm afraid I'll wrap him up in a tortilla and eat him because he's so cute. I don't mean that at all in some kind of whacked-out way. Oh, you know what I mean.

Cats and Personal-Space Bubbles ... Funny, Right?

Sometimes when I work at my kitchen table, I feel a strong presence infiltrating my personal-space bubble. Then I turn around and see the infiltrator with my own two eyes. I see the giant white whiskers that popped tiny holes in my bubble. Personal space means zilch to a cat. Personal-space bubbles are to be popped as easily as those blown through a wand on a warm spring day.

With cats, we live a bubble-less existence.

I Need a Cat-Bed Attachment

I bought this new bed for Cosmo yesterday, and he loves it ... as long as it's sitting flat up against me. I need some pants with a cat-bed attachment. Like something that'd connect to a belt loop. Now that's fashion-forward, right? I already have cat hair all over my pants, why not attach the whole cat?

Pillow Party: Cats Must Wear Tuxedos

And yet another chapter in the continuing saga of "The Case of the Shrinking Pillow" (see what I did there?). Last night I made it through an entire eight-hours with a full pillow all to myself. Can you imagine? I thought I was home free. Then I woke up to feed Cosmo and went right back to bed. When I awoke an hour later, my pillow had been inhabited by a large cat-loaf wearing a tuxedo. I didn't realize pillow parties were such fancy affairs! Tomorrow I'll wear a taffeta ball-gown to bed.

Naturally Occurring Cat Expressions

Cats can do smug, right? They don't even have to try -- it's one of their naturally occurring expressions.

Naturally occurring feline expressions include, but are not limited to:

  • Smug (see photo)
  • About-to-lose-my-damn-mind (usually relating to the sound of a shaken treat bag)
  • Empty stare (also known as open-eyed meditation ... leave me alone)
  • Focused stare (frequently happens for the hour leading up to meal time)
  • Love the CRAP out of you, human (heart-melt alert)

My Cat's Wake-Up Face is Always Camera Ready

This is the look I get when I wake Cosmo so I can snap a cute pic of him.  I suppose I'd give the same look if someone woke me up with a camera in my face. He looks way cuter than I would, though. Cats are always camera-ready, aren't they? No fair!

Win a Year's Supply of Tidy Cats Litter ... and a Unique Tiny Hat! #TidyCatsNYEHats

New Year's Eve is quickly approaching -- can you believe it's nearly 2016? Where did the year go? Our cats are probably wondering the same thing ... because they slept for most of the year: "Where did the year go? Did I dream the whole thing? By the way, where did my food go? Not dinner time? Wake me when it's time to eat."

Yeah, that's what a lot of cats would say if asked about their memories of 2015, but that doesn't mean they don't like to party. Cats can be total party animals ... after a nice nap, that is.

Cosmo's ready to party in his own Adam Ellis design. He's even wearing his tux.

Many of us humans like to don fun hats, grab festive (yet annoying) noise-makers, and get our groove on at New Year's Eve parties. I admit it -- I've worn New Year's party hats. If you're gonna go all in, go all in.

Why should people be the only ones with cool hats? This year, Tidy Cats is teaming up with tiny-hat designer, Adam Ellis to offer readers an opportunity to win their very own, hand-crafted tiny hat for their party-going kitty.

But wait, there's more! Tidy Cats is offering the same winner a year's supply of Tidy Cats litter -- in the form of 12 full-value coupons. Free cat litter is a legit reason to party!

Here's how the giveaway works:

  • Giveaway runs from now through midnight Central, January 1, 2016.
  • Enter your name and email address in the Rafflecopter widget below.
  • Complete the Twitter portion of the widget if you'd like additional entries.
  • Open to U.S. readers.
  • Giveaway subject to change.

Good luck, and Happy New Year to you and your kitties!

Peeky Tongue is Peeky

Cosmo has the best peeky-tongue face, and I wish he'd release more showings than his every-so-often-just-to-tease-you offerings. I want to touch the peeky tongue, but am certain it will result in its immediate exit.

At least I have sweet memories ... and about 28374024 photos on my phone. Of course I go nuts on the pics until he retracts the subject.

Here are a couple of the latest ones. No need to thank me -- I know you more than appreciate this peek at the peeky.

Tease!

The pensive, peeky-tongue pose.

Sometimes Cats Trap You

I don't think they set out thinking, "Hey, I'm going to trap you," but still they do. They have a way of positioning themselves in ways that completely impede our movement. The single-cat-in-a-lap trap is pretty common, but then there's the multiple-cat-maneuver, wherein they pin us from a few angles. Then, of course, how can we possibly disturb the trap? Who knows if a slight move would trigger the appearance of another cat -- mega trap!

They must learn all about this at cat school.

Fan of the Cat Toes

I'm a huge fan of the fanned kitty toes.
They're fan-tastic.
