Cats with Saddlebags? Why Not??

I adore my cats, but they are so…lazy.  Seriously, how many hours of shut-eye do these nap-happy felines need? I sometimes think about how much I’d enjoy their company even more if they could make more practical contributions to the household.  After all, they are domestic, right?

  • You know that cute little kneading they do with their paws when they are purring?  How about kneading me up some fresh bread? Of course I’d require that they wear custom-fitted plastic gloves…and perhaps a whisker net.

  • I could fit my cats with adorable, yet functional saddlebags.  They could retrieve the mail, bring me the remote control, or even fetch me a piece of the delicious homemade bread.

  • Their paws are certainly small enough to swipe-clean those hard-to-reach areas underneath the stove and refrigerator.

  • Great mouse-hunting skills?  Round up my lost car keys and then we’ll talk.

  • Their excellent climbing skills and ability to squeeze into small places make them the perfect candidates for maneuvering through the boxes in the crawl space and retrieving the tubs of Christmas decorations.

  • Since they don’t mind putrid smells, how about changing a diaper or two or disposing of that 6-week old Indian food in the back of the fridge?

See…there are a plethora of prospects for these lackadaisical loaves, if only they were willing participants.  Until then, I shall retrieve my own mail, drag out my own holiday décor, and maybe even learn to make homemade bread (or not).

Saffy wants to help Mama...really she does.

  4. I love the new header! And, that picture of Saffy is great! Alex helps around the house... he tries to "clean" out the fridge!

  5. I love the header too! What a display of FANGS! JUST exactly right!!!

I help mommy too. Just not quite what she wants me to help with. Soon as I wake from my nap in the middle of her bed so she can't make it, I will help her read the paper.

  6. Perhaps if cats had opposable thumbs they could help out a little bit more...??? ;)

A well loved cat truly does have a wonderful life.

  7. love the new header as well!

I think your ideas are fabulous but you know the kitties would NEVER agree to that!

Cody "makes biscuits" on my husband and I EVERY night and it drives my poor husband nuts!! I think the making fresh bread would be first on my "to-do" list for Cody!

  8. wow.. those would be nice.. but we are cats.... you as humans are supost to cater to our whims.. not the other way around. we think we will prove ourselves by copying saffy by not helping, but sleeping.. on clean laundry.. yeah.

  11. I'd be satisfied if they would just take care of the gross spiders in the house. But all they do is look at them and then look at me. Found one on the wall this AM by a light switch and screamed (as usual). Annie just looked at me, the boys totally ignored me.

Yeah, thanks for engaging your "mighty hunter" instincts, guys.

  12. This reminds me of the episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch that was on in the background this morning as I was getting ready. "Salem, fetch me my mascara!"

  13. Oh yes I'm with you on this one. I asked Charlie to get me a kleenex the other day and he just looked at me like I was crazy! Heck he was just sitting there and I was on my computer doing important stuff! Yep, he would rather sleep. Still he is a sweet kitty.

  14. I love it: lackadaisical loaves! The solution: cats all need careers! :) When they find their dream jobs, they will realize their full potential.

  15. My daughter's cat Ginger is really good at coating everything with orange hair and snuggling up with me at night. (smile) It's easy to get over the hair when she purrs.

  16. Mol! What the Island Cats said - we help in our own way :). Although once Minnie helped our mom for real and fetched a plastic water bottle lid that fell between the fridge and the wall and out of reach!
