I'm a Total Sucker

I'm a total sucker... I openly and fully admit it.  My cats are the royal court around here and they know it -- we humans just have to give it up and stop trying to fight it!  For example, a few years ago, I bought a cozy, tan-colored sweatery-jackety thing at a garage sale.  I loved it -- it was very soft and kept me warm on those crisp autumn days.  Here in Minnesota, those autumn days arrived a few weeks ago; I was so happy to slip that cushy, snug sweatery-jackety thing off its hanger and onto my chilly arms.  Then it began...

I wore the sweatery-jackety thing for a few days and, instead of hanging it up at the end of the day, I draped it over a chair.  I forgot to mention it had two drawstring cords that hung from the hood; attached to the cords were these fabulously soft puffy balls (aka cat toys).  So as my sweatery-jackety thing hung from the chair, Phoebe regularly stalked and batted the floofy balls. One chilly morning, I slipped on my cozy piece of outerwear, only to find the floofy-fuzzies were missing!!  This was Phoebe's first maneuver in slowly taking ownership of the sweatery-jackety thing.

Then one afternoon, I felt too lazy to hang it back in the closet so I left it on the dining room table.  When I awoke the next morning, I found Phoebe sleeping on it, further sealing her takeover.

p.s. Cats on tables are a no-no in our house!
She honestly seemed obsessed with this piece of clothing; her fascination led her to pulling it off chairs and napping atop it, wherever it might have fallen.

After days of watching this courtship, I submitted and placed Phoebe's beloved sweatery-jackety thing on her perch of the cat tree.

Now she smiles smugly at me from her newly-commandeered spot on the sweatery-jackety thing.  After all, she knew it was hers all along, didn't she?

  6. He he he! Mama can commiserate--one of her friends made her a warm afghan to throw on the couch, but it wasn't long before it became ours!
