I'm Doing it Wrong??

I often write about the reasons I'd like to be a cat.  Let me preface the next statement by saying that all of the previously mentioned feline-envy comments are true, I've just been pondering a little further on the topic of cat culture.  Sorry, feline friends -- I'm a cat fancier, through-and-through; however, I just decided that maybe I haven't considered the full scope of the situation. Maybe being a cat really isn't "all that."  And I'm really only talking about one particular topic.

I didn't feel tip-top yesterday so I napped on the sofa in the afternoon, curled up in bed at 7pm, and slept for nearly ten hours.  My back hurts!  How in the world does one marathon-sleep like a cat and wake up feeling refreshed?  Maybe it's just me...after all, I did turn 40 this year.

Seriously... when I climbed out of bed this morning, I hobbled across the bedroom floor and I think I even said "ouch!"  Maybe I should learn those post-sleep cat stretches.

Even now, when I turn my neck to the left, it stops before my chin reaches my shoulder and there's a quick, sharp pain and a popcorn-popping noise.  I've never heard popcorn noises coming from my cats.  Maybe I should try a different sleeping position.

Yeah, although I definitely would love more play time and less responsibility, I don't think my body agrees with the whole epic-nap scene.  My cats would probably have something different to say:

  1. Probably the post sleep stretches would work but you know that cats sleep in all kinds of different positions, so I feel like it isn't because you are sleeping wrong. Hope the back gets better. Have a really fun week end.

  2. Have your resident feline masseuse work on your back for you. I massage mom's back and even her head..also her belleh and her legs..her face and her chest..all while she's in bed in the dark with her eyes closed! I'm sure that's what makes her able to get up.

  6. You see... the human body is not made for napping the way our are. We have special bendy properties that make it easy for us to sleep 20+ hours a day.

    Have a great weekend.
    pawhugs to you... Max

  7. I think our cats are trying to teach us that stretching is key, so perhaps, if you add that to the equation, the long naps actually are a nice thing! I love how cats never get up from any position without stretching first. Allegra does the best downward dog yoga stretch (I really think it should be renamed downward cat!).

  8. My Mama always say: In my next life, I wanna be a cat. So I told her, hmmm...repeat after me: I AM NOT A CAT. Should I say the same to you? Unless we can get the big bad witch to turn you into a cat. purrr....meow!

  11. My human says that when she is not doing yoga regularly, she really feels it - which only goes to show that it's smart to do cat stretches! I think napping and stretching go together. Plus maybe some massage.
