It's a #PreciousCat Litter Giveaway!

GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED

Cat litter! Recently my three had the chance to try Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract by Precious Cat. After reading so much about the litter, and never having tried it, I was excited for my cats to give it a go when they needed to "go.".

Saffy hearts Cat Attract.

Our Saffy has a history of urinary issues, including occasional infections. She is always top of mind when we consider litter. We don't want anything with a heavy fragrance -- we want her to want to use the box. As we all know, it's no fun for anyone when kitties urinate anywhere outside the box. Being on top of what's happening with your cat's urinary health is critical. The number one reason cats are surrendered to shelters or euthanized is due to inappropriate elimination.

Ready to go!

We also know our readers often look for suggestions for products they've never tried, and we love to be able to do the legwork for them and share our opinions. With that in mind, we excitedly filled one of the boxes with Cat Attract and waited to see how the cats would react. We really were excited -- I wish you could have seen us.

From a scooper's perspective, here's what I noticed:

  • The cats had no trouble using the box with the Cat Attract litter in it, and it appeared Cosmo, Saffy and Phoebe easily covered all their "business." The litter is blended with a natural herbal attractant, so no artificial fragrance.
  • The litter's texture is cat-friendly and really does resemble sand -- more closely than any other litter we've used. The box looked like a mini beach!
  • It clumped beautifully. Some litters cause the clumps to stick to the bottom or sides of the box -- I didn't notice any of this, which is great because that's kind of messy.
  • The hardened clumps scooped easily. The only word that kept running through my mind as I scooped (besides "I wish the cats could scoop their own boxes") was smooth. The small pieces made it easy to glide through the box and the clumps were well-covered so nothing stuck to the scooper. Smooth is always good.
  • My daughter helps me scoop and she has asthma. I'm always eager to hear her opinion on the dust factor of litters. She reported that she barely noticed any dust -- it didn't affect her breathing in the least. This is a huge deal for our house. Litter vs. inhaler: Litter wins!
  • I did see that it tracked a little more than other brands we've tried. It does make sense because the pieces are smaller, and sand-like. It wasn't an huge difference, but wanted to mention it. I know I track a little when I have sand between my toes.

Phoebe has a final word.

So how about it? Would you like to try a bag of Cat Attract? Here's how it works!

Score One For the Sweet Pariah

Maybe this is a common scene in your house, but I was overjoyed to walk into my bedroom and see this happening. You see, Saffy is the pariah among my three cats -- Phoebe and Cosmo don't normally give her the time of day, much less share sleeping space with her. Look how pretty she looks, all stretched out, her creamy white filling exposed for all to admire. Happy mama moment.  Not sure how long this actually lasted, but I pretended like they stayed like that all day long.

My Cat's Thoughts on the Laptop

When I am on the sofa doing anything on my laptop, this is what I see. He wants to be my laptop. I'm OK with that, as long as he doesn't have any viruses.

I'm in the Bathroom, and the Cats Are at Their Posts!

Ah, cats and bathrooms. They just go together, don't they? Cosmo usually weaves around my legs until I pick him up. He loves to sit in my lap while I'm doing my bathroom "duty." Haha. Phoebe, on the other hand, parks herself on a pile of towels and simply stares at me. Nah, that's not at all unnerving.

The Elevated Butt

Cats love to sit on top of things, no matter how little height the objects actually give them. They just like the feeling of feeling elevated, even an inch. Case in point: Phoebe lowered her butt on top of my rectangular-shaped hard drive. It's just big enough for her fuzzy bottom and you better believe she made it happen. Now she's the boss of me ... as if she wasn't already.

Privacy is a Two-Way Street

Yesterday I was watching Phoebe clean herself and admiring her position and cute little stretchy body. I started taking a few photos because I wanted to remember her adorableness ... and post here, of course.

She finally caught on to what I was doing and shot me a couple of looks like, "Does privacy mean nothing to you, woman?" I suppose. But she was in the middle of my living room floor, and how many times has she watched me bathe and do other bathroom-related functions? It's a two-way street, sister!

I'm Getting Personal About BlogPaws

I love this photo of Phoebe and Cosmo. It looks to me like they're waiting in line for something.

OK, here comes the segue ... get ready for it ...

Guess what? You don't have to wait in line to register for the BlogPaws conference. No way. It's easy-peasy, and you'll be set to go in no time.

I know I've been writing and posting about BlogPaws for some time now. And I know you know I'm an ambassador. I don't want to spend this post telling you facts about the conference that you can easily snap up when you go to their site, so I'm going to get personal here. I'm going to tell some of my special reasons I love attending the BlogPaws conference.

#1: The social shuttle

When I'm on the shuttle from the airport to the hotel (and there is a FREE shuttle in Vegas this year), I usually make new friends who are also heading to the conference. This was especially cool when I attended my very first one in 2010 -- I didn't feel like I was such a loner when I walked into the hotel. You can usually tell who the conference goers are -- it's like we recognize each other. In my experience, people who are devoted to their pets are usually kind-hearted and friendly. Say hi.

Here I am with Tamar from I Have Cat and Deb from Glogirly, two of the kindest around!

#2 Desserts!

The desserts are crazy-good. I have a serious sweet tooth, so it's a treat for me to go town on a variety of noms after lunch and dinner. And there are sometimes choices. Is that weird that the desserts are one of the reasons I look forward to the conference? I couldn't care less -- I told you I was going to get personal. And in a few short weeks I'm going to get up close and personal with something chocolate. Or maybe cheesecake. I hope cheesecake.

Whaaaaat????

#3: Well-dressed cats

I get to see cats in clothing. My cats have no patience for clothes, and I know people have definite opinions about whether or not our feline friends should get dolled up, but I think it depends on the cat. At BlogPaws, there are some seriously cute cats who are friendly, well-socialized, comfortable and look faaaabuuuloouusss!!!

Cats in clothes! Yay!

#4: Hanging with cool cats

The Cat Lounge! My friend Kate Benjamin of Hauspanther puts together this amazing room of the latest, greatest cat products on the market. There are fountain, scratchers, litter boxes, toys ... and that's just the beginning. The Cat Lounge tends to be the "home base" for cat bloggers. It's where we can go during down time, to visit with our friends, and check out the display items. Sometimes there are even little freebies. Oh, and guess what? In the Cat Lounge, you can register to win one of those cool display items! The drawing is the last day of the conference, and believe me, you want to register.

The awesome Cat Lounge!

So that's all for now -- more reasons for you to attend! Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about the conference, and you can always learn more by attending the #BlogPawsChat on Twitter tonight from 8-10 PM CDT. Speaking of attending, when you register, you can still receive 10% off when you use the code: BlogPaws2014-Angie-10. You're welcome, and I hope to see you on the airport shuttle!

Warmed Loins

Because sometimes you just want to sun your loins.

Cat + Warm Sun = Coolness

Yesterday, Cosmo was enjoying a stream of midday sunlight. He looked so contented, just sitting there, his midnight fur absorbing all that heat. He had absolutely no idea he was giving me an opportunity for a super-cool photo. Or maybe he did. Maybe I should expect a bill for his modeling fee in the mail.

Not the Last Straw

Does your cat like to play with straws? Phoebe goes nuts for them. Sometimes she even carries them around in her mouth like a dog with a stick. And then she makes that hunting howl. You know the one.

I have an idea. Why don't I stop spending money on cat toys and buy a box of straws?

Giveaway: Cartoon Drawing of You and Your Pet!

GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Today on Catladyland I get to be a proud mom of cats and humans. My daughter is getting ready to graduate from high school and has already been accepted into the animation and visual effects program of an art college. She's always loved drawing and creating animations, and I'm exceedingly proud of her. She recently created a cartoon of my friend and me to use for our sketch comedy web series.

She also drew this one of Phoebe and me. Isn't it adorable?

So, to celebrate cats and art, my darling daughter Frances has agreed to give away one cartoon drawing of a person with one pet. This is my way of helping her promote her art commission business and giving you an opportunity to get your paws on one of her cute cartoons.

And if you don't win, or would like to go ahead and purchase a drawing, you can do that too! Take a look at her Tumblr site, where she has all the details. You will find her rates more than reasonable!

Now, on to the particulars of the giveaway!

  • You must comment WITH YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS and indicate interest in qualifying for the giveaway. If you would rather not leave your address here, you can email me: catladyland(at)gmail(dot)com.
  • The giveaway closes at 11:59pm CDT on Wednesday, March 26, 2014.
  • Once contacted, you will have 48 hours to respond or another name will be drawn.
  • Winner will receive a digital, vertical color image (9 in. x 11 in. / 647 pixels x 791 pixels)
  • Winners will be chosen via randomizer.org.

Good luck!

Red Carpet Tongue

I've caught photos of my cats yawning plenty of times, but this one of Cosmo especially made me laugh. It's not the best quality, but look how his tongue is rolled up like a little red carpet. I love that cat.

Dang, My Cats are Psychic

Yesterday I wanted to snuggle with Cosmo, but couldn't find him. After looking in all the usual places, I went to settle into my spot on the sofa. Guess who was hiding under my favorite blanket? Yep, he was already in place for the snuggle. This is just like what happened with Saffy in the cat carrier. Dang, my cats are psychic.

Shenanigans and Very Large Hats

When I was thinking about what to post for today, I reviewed some past St. Paddy's Day selections. I ran across this one I posted man moons ago. The giant hats on Phoebe and Saffy still crack me up. I had to post this again. Really, I'm not being lazy (this time) -- I really do like this one.

But That Plate Looks Better Than Mine!

Because food always tastes better when it comes from someone else's plate, right? Even though I usually love what I order in restaurants -- for just a few moments -- I usually have ordering remorse and think my dining partner's food looks better than mine.

Micromanagement at its Cutest

While I'm working, Phoebe is usually in her desk-basket, on my lap or wandering about the top of my desk. Because how could I possibly do anything properly if not under her watchful eye? It's called micromanagement!

And congrats to Pam F. for winning the Cat Pack from Tiger Teasers!

The Pet-Taxi Surprise!

Yesterday I had an appointment to take Saffy to the vet. I'd set out the carrier for awhile ... you know, to let the cats become accustomed to its presence and not run for the hills. When it came time for me to collect Saff and place her inside the carrier, she was nowhere to be found. I thought for sure she was hiding out somewhere. As a last-ditch effort, I glanced inside the carrier, and there was Saffy. What in the world?? I certainly didn't expect to see here there, but we were suddenly all packed up and ready to go!

My Cat's Strange Skill

Phoebe tucks herself under covers. I've walked in to find her like this twice, and wondered how she did it. She must go in head-first and then turn around, right? Whatever the case, it completely cracks me up. Does your cat do this?

My Cat Was in Awe of Mount Laundry

Yesterday I was folding laundry, and placed a very full laundry basket on one of the kitchen bar stools. Phoebe is used to claiming every laundry basket as her own, so she was of course intrigued when she saw the massive one sitting on the stool. She immediately jumped onto the next stool and tried to figure out how she could possibly get on top of it. I think she was a little in awe of Mount Laundry. She never scaled the pile, but I did give her the basket when there was room for her to climb inside of it.

Plotting Her Next Move

Phoebe is a very busy cat, and she demands a lot of attention. We have interactive toys she can play with on her own, but sometimes she simply must have human attention. I work from home, so I can play with her during the day, but I also have work deadlines; this does not please her. After she's gotten my attention by walking across my desk and we've played awhile, she sits inside her little blue house. It's like she's plotting her next move.

Talk to the Paw

I love it when cats curl up so tidily and cover their face with a paw. And that paw is clutching so tightly that it looks like an extension of the face. Phoebe was recently in this position and I tried to lift her paw. She was having none of it and clutched her fuzzy face even more tightly.

I think she wanted me to go away. So I did.

The Mid-Romp Pose

You know that thing where cats are mid-romp, and then they stop and just stand there, frozen like statues, with their paws poised? Yeah, that makes me laugh.

The "Peeky Tongue" That Almost Killed Me

If you read any of my posts here or on Catster, you know how much I love the "peeky tongue." You know what I mean -- when a cat has finished grooming himself and forgets to retract the little pink tongue. I almost DIED a few days ago when Cosmo exhibited "extended peeky tongue," lasting a full 2-3 minutes!

It's a Tiger Teasers Cat-Toy Giveaway!

GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED
WINNER: PAM FRANKS

Cats love to play, and my cats' favorite kinds of toys are the ones that mimic real prey they would naturally hunt in the wild. When Tiger Teasers told me about their cat toys, I knew we had to try them. We liked them so much that they agreed to offer a giveaway to Catladyland readers! Isn't that nice?

The winner will receive a Cat Pack, which includes one Lion Lure and two Bunnies. Let me tell you a little bit about these toys and how my cats enjoyed them.

The Lion Lure is a 24" colorful wand-toy made of durable acrylic, wire, a small bell and either real or synthetic fur.

Cosmo went nuts for this toy when I dragged it along the ground. I really does move like a small rodent!

Cosmo is mesmerized by the Lion Lure.

The Bunnies are corks that are covered with either real or synthetic fur.

The Bunnies

Phoebe was especially fond of this toy because she loves batting and chasing smaller-sized toys. Because they're so lightweight, they bounce and are easy for a cat to toss.

Phoebe prepares to bat the Bunny.

Tiger Teasers always offers a generous 20% discount at their Etsy store when using the code CATLADYLAND. But right now, you have the opportunity to win a Cat Pack!

Here's how:
  • You must comment WITH YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS and indicate interest in qualifying for the giveaway. If you would rather not leave your address here, you can email me: catladyland(at)gmail(dot)com.
  • The giveaway closes at 11:59pm CDT on Friday, March 14, 2014.
  • Once contacted, you will have 48 hours to respond or another name will be drawn.
  • Open to addresses in the US and Canada only.
  • Winners will be chosen via randomizer.org.

Good luck!

Spotty "Lips" For the Win!

Phoebe has gorgeous facial features, but I'm especially enamored with her little "lips." They're mostly pink with some brown spots in places. I love it when I get a close-up gander. I could just stare at those "lips" for hours. Things are pretty exciting around my place, huh?

Still Life with Butt-Slurp

This was supposed to be a really cute photo of Phoebe lying on my bed. In a split second it became "Still Life with Butt-Slurp."

I Guess I'll Be Cold

Me: "Phoebe, I'm cold -- can I have my jacket?"
Phoebe: "No."
Me: "OK."

A Pretty Cool Trick

Sometimes Phoebe stares at her food dish, as if she's willing it to fill itself. Actually, that would be a pretty cool trick -- I might get to sleep in on the weekend.

Cat Feet are Magnets

This kind of extended foot/stretched-toe combination is a hyper-powerful magnet to me. I can't stay away from its charms. First I admire it from afar, then I move in for a closer examination, and then -- only if I can't help myself (HA) -- I dare to touch it. Nirvana.

The Cat and the Plastic Bubbles

I unpacked some boxes yesterday and, while I was working, I heard that telltale gnawing that could only be coming from one of my three plastic-obsessed cats. You are familiar with that sound, right?

Yes, folks ... Phoebe found the bubble wrap.
